- Before fitting, lightly dust the tube with talcum powder to prevent the tube sticking to the inside of the tyre and to ease installation.
- Never use petroleum-based lubricants when seating the tube — use water or tyre mounting lubricant only.
- Partially inflate the tube just enough to give it shape before inserting it into the tyre; this reduces the risk of pinching.
- Ensure the valve stem sits squarely through the rim hole and that the valve retaining nut is finger-tight before final inflation.
- Inflate to the tyre manufacturer's recommended pressure — do not exceed the maximum pressure marked on the tyre sidewall.
- After fitting, check the bead is seated evenly around the rim on both sides before riding.
- Inspect the tube for slow leaks or valve weeping after the first ride; re-torque the valve core if required.
- Store spare tubes in a cool, dark location away from direct sunlight, ozone sources (electric motors) and petroleum products to prevent premature rubber degradation.
- Do not fold a stored tube sharply; coil it loosely to avoid stress cracking at the fold points.
