- Lightly dust the tube with talcum powder before fitting to reduce friction between the tube and tyre, preventing chafing and pinching.
- Ensure the rim tape is intact and covers all spoke nipples before installation to avoid tube abrasion or puncture from sharp edges.
- When fitting, partially inflate the tube first so it holds its shape — this helps prevent the tube from being caught and pinched between the tyre bead and rim.
- Use plastic tyre levers rather than metal ones where possible to reduce the risk of puncturing the tube during installation.
- Check tyre pressure before every ride; correct pressure for the tube's rated size is critical — under-inflation causes excessive flex and heat, leading to premature failure.
- After off-road sessions in rocky terrain, inspect the tube (once removed) for small cuts, abrasions, or slow leaks before the next ride.
- Store spare tubes away from direct sunlight, ozone sources (electric motors, fluorescent lights), and petroleum-based products, which degrade rubber over time.
- Do not re-use a tube that has been repaired multiple times in the same section; replace it outright for reliable performance in demanding conditions.
