  • Match the jig to the fastener first — use the bolt jig hole that corresponds to the thread size, or the nut jig for nuts up to 1-3/8".
  • Secure the jig firmly on the fastener before drilling so the guide bushing sits square to the flat.
  • Use a 2mm or smaller drill bit; anything larger will not pass through the guide and can damage the jig.
  • Run the drill at a moderate speed with steady, light pressure rather than forcing it, and back the bit out periodically to clear swarf.
  • A drop of cutting oil on the bit helps with hardened fasteners and extends bit life.
  • Deburr the drilled hole and blow or brush the fastener clean before threading safety wire through it.
  • Clear metal filings from the guide holes after each job so the jig continues to seat flush.
  • Wipe the jigs clean and apply a light film of oil before storing to prevent surface rust.
  • Store the kit dry, and inspect the guide holes occasionally — a worn or bell-mouthed guide will no longer hold the bit straight.
  • Always wear eye protection when drilling, and clamp loose fasteners in a vice rather than holding them by hand.
