Description

The Alpinestars Supertech M3 (SM3) Youth is a full-face off-road helmet anatomically shaped for young riders, built for motocross, enduro and general off-road use. Rather than shrinking an adult shell, Alpinestars profiled the SM3 Youth around youth head shapes and carried across the protection and ventilation technology from its adult helmet range.

A thermo-injected thermoplastic shell with varied wall thickness keeps claimed weight down to 1060 g in ECE form, while a multi-density EPS liner places the right foam density in the right area. Alpinestars' patented low-friction coating on the inner EPS acts as a slip plane to help manage rotational forces from oblique impacts, and a patented visor release system lets the peak break away at a pre-determined force.

Fit can be tuned with crown and cheek pads available in different thicknesses as genuine spare parts. Because Youth Medium and Youth Large share the same EPS size, a YM helmet can be reconfigured to YL fit as a rider grows. Finished in solid matte black.

Key Features

  • ECE 22.06 homologated (model also produced in a separate DOT-certified version)
  • Claimed weight 1060 g in ECE specification (1170 g DOT version)
  • Thermo-injected thermoplastic shell with varying thickness for impact protection at low weight
  • Three youth shell sizes: Youth Small, Youth Medium and Youth Large
  • Multi-density EPS liner with density matched to each impact zone
  • Patented low-friction coating on the inner EPS to reduce rotational acceleration in oblique impacts
  • Patented visor release system releases the peak at a pre-determined force
  • 10 intake vents and seven exhaust ports, with the visor shaped to feed air into the intakes
  • Emergency Release System with removable cheek pads for safe helmet removal after a crash
  • Chin area engineered to Alpinestars' in-house standard, tested beyond homologation requirements
  • Crown and cheek pads available separately in different thicknesses to fine-tune fit
  • YM and YL share one EPS size, so a YM helmet can be padded down and grown into YL fit
  • Hydration tube channels built into the cheek pads
  • 25 mm soft textile chin strap with stainless steel D-ring closure
  • Comfort liner made using recycled materials

Operations & maintenance

Check the fit before first use: the helmet should sit snugly with no pressure points, and it should not roll forward or off when the fastened strap is pulled.
Fasten the chin strap through both stainless steel D-rings every ride and pull it firm — the helmet only performs as designed when the retention system is correctly done up.
Fine-tune the fit with the genuine Alpinestars crown and cheek pads, which are sold separately in different thicknesses; on YM and YL sizes the same EPS shell can be padded to suit either fit as the rider grows.
Remove the cheek pads and comfort liner for cleaning; hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly and air dry away from direct heat before refitting.
Clean the shell with a soft cloth, warm water and mild soap only. Avoid petrol, solvents and abrasive cleaners, which can attack the thermoplastic shell and any coatings.
Keep the 10 intake vents and seven exhaust ports clear of mud and dust so airflow through the helmet is not blocked.
The visor is designed to detach at a pre-determined force; if it releases in a crash or an impact, check the visor and its mounts before refitting.
Show parents, pit crew or marshals the Emergency Release System tabs so the cheek pads can be pulled out to remove the helmet safely after a fall.
Store the helmet in its bag in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, and do not hang it on a mirror or handlebar where the liner can be crushed or the shell knocked.
Retire and replace the helmet after any significant impact, even where no damage is visible — EPS compresses once and does not recover.
