Operations & maintenance

Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified tyre technician using correct equipment — scooter tyres should not be fitted by hand or with levers alone.
Check that 100/90-14 51P meets or exceeds the size, load index and speed rating specified on your scooter's tyre placard or in the owner's manual before fitting.
As this is a tubeless tyre, make sure the rim is undamaged and seals properly; fit a new valve (or valve seal) whenever the tyre is replaced.
Ride gently for the first rides while the new tread surface scrubs in — avoid hard acceleration, heavy braking and deep lean angles until the release agents have worn off.
Check cold inflation pressure at least fortnightly and before long rides, setting it to the pressure specified by the scooter manufacturer, not the maximum moulded on the sidewall.
Inspect regularly for cuts, embedded stones, bulges, uneven wear or sidewall damage, and replace the tyre if any are found.
Replace the tyre before the tread wears to the legal minimum depth (1.5 mm in most Australian jurisdictions) or when the tread wear indicators are reached.
Do not exceed the load or speed capability of the tyre, and fit it in the direction of rotation marked on the sidewall where applicable.
Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight, solvents, fuels and electric motors that produce ozone.
A repaired tyre should be treated as a temporary measure only — seek professional advice, and never ride on a tyre that has been run flat.
