The RMSTATOR RMS022-105928 is a CNC-machined aluminium MOSFET voltage regulator/rectifier built as a direct replacement for the original unit on a range of three-phase permanent-magnet charging systems. It suits riders chasing a more durable, cooler-running alternative to OEM diode-style regulators, and mechanics replacing units that have failed from heat.
MOSFET regulation switches the stator coils on and off rather than dumping excess current as heat, so the charging voltage stays steadier and the stator sees less load. The red-anodised billet heatsink is designed to shed heat far better than a cast housing — RMSTATOR states it runs 33% cooler after ten minutes of use — and built-in overheat protection shuts the unit down to cool rather than letting it burn out.
Fitment is model and VIN specific. Several Triumph and Can-Am models take more than one regulator depending on VIN range, so please confirm your VIN against the fitment list before ordering. RMSTATOR warranty conditions for this part: all electrical components must be fitted by a qualified technician, and the root cause of the original failure must be identified and rectified before fitting. - Have the unit fitted by a qualified technician — this is a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.
- Diagnose and fix the underlying cause of the original regulator failure (damaged stator, poor earth, corroded connectors, weak battery) before fitting the replacement, or the new unit is likely to fail as well.
- Fully charge the battery before carrying out any charging-system testing or replacing parts; no regulator can regulate correctly on a weak or faulty battery. Have the battery load tested if there is any doubt.
- Confirm fitment against your VIN before installation — several Triumph and Can-Am models use different regulators depending on VIN range, and the wrong unit will not regulate correctly.
- Use the supplied harness-side connector to replace the original if it shows melting, discolouration or green corrosion on the pins, as a degraded connector is a common cause of repeat failures.
- Mount the unit in its original location in clean airflow, with the finned heatsink unobstructed — do not wrap it, insulate it or block the fins, as heat dissipation is what keeps it alive.
- Ensure mounting faces are clean and the earth path is sound; the 80 mm hole spacing suits the standard bracket, so avoid adapters that isolate the housing.
- Keep the unit within its -20°C to 85°C operating range. If overheat protection trips, the regulator shuts down until it cools — investigate airflow, load and stator condition rather than simply restarting.
- Check charging voltage at the battery periodically; expect roughly 14.5 V ± 0.5 V at charging speed. A reading well outside this warrants further diagnosis.
- Clean the housing with a damp cloth only. Do not pressure-wash the connectors, and keep terminals dry and lightly protected with dielectric grease.
- Disconnect the battery before removing or refitting the regulator, and never run the engine with the regulator unplugged.
