The Oxford Advanced Expedition is the warmest layer in Oxford's Advanced layering system, where base, mid and outer garments each do a specific job to keep you comfortable, warm, dry and protected. Cut slim so it sits neatly beneath a riding jacket, it uses body-mapped insulation to concentrate warmth where you lose it fastest while keeping bulk to a minimum.

Windproof, breathable front panels are lined with a soft fur-fleece for warmth retention on genuinely cold rides, and lightweight four-way stretch fabric through the back, arms, cuffs and hem lets the jacket move with you. It's aimed at adventure, touring and commuting riders facing sustained cold or exposed conditions, and works equally well off the bike as an everyday thermal layer.

Wear it directly over a thin wicking base layer, or on its own as a mid layer, and hook the thumb loops through before pulling on your riding jacket so the sleeves stay put.
Check your outer jacket has room for the extra layer - if your jacket is already a close fit, size accordingly rather than compressing the insulation, which reduces its warmth.
Always follow the sewn-in care label for wash temperature and drying instructions.
Wash regularly, as thermal layers absorb perspiration; turn the garment inside out and close the pocket zips first to protect the fleece and stretch panels.
Avoid fabric softener - it coats technical fabrics and reduces breathability and moisture transfer.
Don't use bleach or solvent-based cleaners on the fleece or stretch fabric.
Dry away from direct heat sources such as radiators, heaters or exhaust pipes; hanging to dry preserves the stretch panels and silicone hem grip.
Store clean and completely dry, hung or loosely folded, rather than compressed for long periods.
Inspect the cuff thumb holes, hem grip and zips periodically, and repair small snags early before they spread through the stretch fabric.
