Fully reticulated (open cell) foam, as used in all Putoline filter products, consists of a honeycomb of tiny, interlocking cells of uniform size.  When treated with specially formulated filter oil, each passageway is like hundreds of very small centrifugal/oil bath filters connected one to another.  In this way, the foam traps and holds the particles throughout the entire volume of foam.

The development of this unique foam represents a major advancement in air filtration technology. As a result, foam air filters, when compared with paper or cotton gauze equivalents, combine great airflow capability, huge dust holding capacity, and very high filtration efficiency for even extremely small particles.

Construction:

1. Coarse open-pore foam catches airborne dirt, grime and sand.
2. Fine open-pore inner foam acts as a second filter to trap the smallest particles while ensuring maximum air passage.
3. Exclusively formulated adhesive ensures glue seams will not break down.
4. Thick, flat foam, greaseless sealing ring ensures maximum contact with your airbox, while acting as a breathable gasket for increased air passage.
5. Fused outer and inner elements prevent dirt and grime from being lodged between layers. Trapped particles can restrict airflow. If dirt works it's way into your engine, a pinhead-sized granule will gouge your piston and rings like a bullet.

Oil the filter with a dedicated foam filter oil before first use and after every clean - a dry foam element will not trap fine dust.
Work the oil evenly through the full depth of both foam layers, then gently squeeze out the excess so the element is saturated but not dripping.
Seat the flat foam sealing ring squarely and evenly against the airbox flange so there is no gap for unfiltered air to bypass the filter.
Check and service the filter more often when riding in dust, sand or mud; in those conditions a clean after every ride is not excessive.
Clean with a purpose-made foam filter cleaner and warm water. Squeeze the filter to flush the dirt out - do not twist, wring or stretch the foam, as this tears the cells and splits the glue seams.
Avoid petrol, kerosene and harsh solvents, which break down the foam and the adhesive holding the layers together.
Let the filter dry completely before re-oiling and refitting; trapped moisture can be drawn into the engine.
Inspect the element each service for tears, hardened foam or separated glue seams, and replace it if any are found.
Store spare or cleaned filters in a sealed bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight so they stay clean and ready to fit.
Always refit the airbox cover and any filter retaining bolt or cage correctly - a loose filter can move under airflow and let dirt past.
