Description

Putoline Chain Wax is a traditional hot-immersion chain lubricant fortified with graphite. Melted in its tin and applied by dipping the chain, it flows deep into the links and rollers before setting to a waxy film that stays put rather than flinging off.

It suits riders running open (non-sealed) chains on motorcycles, scooters, quads and older or competition machines, where a thorough soak-in lubricant is preferred to an aerosol. Supplied in a 1kg tin, with any unused wax able to be resealed and remelted for the next service.

Putoline Oil is a Dutch manufacturer that develops and produces its own oils and lubricants specifically for motorcycles, scooters and quads, backed by close to 50 years of experience.

Operations & maintenance

Intended for open (non-sealed) chains — it is not applied as a spray, so it is not suited to chains that must be lubricated in situ.
Remove the chain from the machine before treating; the process requires full immersion in molten wax.
Clean and dry the chain thoroughly before waxing so the wax contacts bare metal rather than old grease and road grime.
Open the tin and heat it on a gas cooker or hotplate until the wax is fully liquid — heat gently and never leave it unattended.
Place the chain into the molten wax and leave it to soak for a few minutes so the wax penetrates the links and rollers.
Lift the chain out, let the excess drain back into the tin, and allow the wax to cool and set before refitting.
Keep wax off tyres, brake discs and pads; clean any overspill from the machine before riding.
Allow the tin to cool, reseal it and store in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and naked flames — the remaining wax can be remelted and reused.
Re-treat whenever the chain looks dry or dull, and after wet or muddy rides that strip the film.
