The Pirelli MT21 Rallycross is a knobbed dual-purpose motorcycle tyre for riders who spend most of their time away from the bitumen. Its rally-bred tread is shaped for dirt and gravel roads and desert going, while the DOT-approved casing means it is built to handle the transport stage between trails as well as the terrain once you get there.

It suits enduro, adventure and dual-sport machines running a 17-inch rear wheel, and is a sensible choice where traction in loose surfaces matters more than sealed-road manners. The off-road compound is formulated to resist knob tearing, so the tread blocks stay sharp deeper into the tyre's life. Sold individually, not as a pair.

Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified motorcycle tyre technician, and check the sidewall for any directional or fitment markings before mounting.
This is a tube-type (TT) tyre — fit it with a suitable new inner tube and sound rim tape rather than running it tubeless.
Set pressures cold to the pressure recommended by your motorcycle's manufacturer for the load and terrain, and re-check them before each ride.
If you run lower pressures for loose surfaces, use rim locks so the tyre cannot creep on the rim and tear the valve stem.
Scrub the new tread in with a gentle first ride, then re-check bead seating and pressures.
Expect less grip and longer braking distances on wet sealed roads than a road tyre — the knobbed tread is built for dirt and gravel.
Inspect regularly for torn or chunked knobs, cuts, splits and embedded stones, and replace the tyre if the casing is damaged or once the tread reaches the legal minimum in your state.
Clean with mild soap and water only; keep petrol, solvents and silicone-based tyre shine off the tread and sidewalls.
Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, heat sources and electric motors that generate ozone.
Do not exceed the load index and speed symbol marked on the sidewall, and have any tyre that has been run flat inspected professionally before further use.
