Clean the chain when cool — never apply cleaner or lube to a hot chain immediately after riding.
Place a cardboard sheet or rag beneath the chain to protect the tyre and wheel when cleaning.
Apply chain cleaner generously, allow it to penetrate, then scrub with a chain cleaning brush to remove built-up grime, old lube, and debris.
Rinse away loosened dirt and cleaner residue thoroughly and allow the chain to dry completely before applying fresh lubricant.
Apply chain lube to the inner side of the chain (at the sprocket interface) while slowly rotating the rear wheel — this ensures even distribution.
Allow lube to penetrate and settle for a few minutes before riding; wipe away any excess from the outer plates and O-rings to minimise fling-off.
Inspect chain tension and wear at the same time as cleaning; adjust or replace the chain according to your motorcycle's service manual if stretch is detected.
For track or race use, clean and re-lube the chain more frequently — after every session if conditions are wet or particularly dirty.
