Patrol 016 Vivid Crystal Blue

The Patrol 016 is a 16-inch alloy kids' bike built for young riders who are past the balance-bike stage and ready for pedals, real tyres and proper brakes. It keeps things deliberately simple — a single-speed drivetrain, no gears to fuss with, and grippy MTB tyres that hold their line on gravel, grass and footpaths.

The headline quality is weight. At 6.5kg it is light enough for a child to control, lift and pick up after a tumble — and light enough for the parent who inevitably ends up carrying it home. For this update, Patrol reworked the double-butted alloy frame with new tubing and revised the geometry for a more natural, confident ride.

Have the bike assembled and safety-checked by a qualified bicycle mechanic before the first ride, then re-check all bolts and the headset after the first few rides while everything beds in.
Set the saddle height so your child can comfortably reach the ground while learning, and raise it as they grow — never extend the seat post past its minimum insertion mark.
Check tyre pressure before each ride and inflate the VEE Crown Gem tyres within the pressure range printed on the tyre sidewall.
Bed in the Clarks CMD-21 disc brakes with a series of progressive stops on the first ride, and keep oil, degreaser, chain lube and polish well away from the rotors and pads.
Inspect brake pad wear and cable tension regularly; take up cable stretch with the barrel adjuster and replace pads before they reach the backing plate.
Keep the single-speed chain clean and lightly lubricated, wiping off excess, and check chain tension periodically so it neither binds nor sags enough to drop off the 32t chainring.
Wash with mild soapy water and a soft brush, rinse with low-pressure water only, and dry the bike afterwards — high-pressure washers force water past hub and bottom bracket seals.
Store indoors in a dry place out of direct sunlight, and dry the bike down after wet or muddy rides to protect the drivetrain and bearings.
Inspect the alloy frame, fork, bars and stem for dents, cracks or deep scratches after any significant crash, and stop riding until a mechanic has checked it.
