Description

The Oxford LidLock is a compact helmet security carabiner that lets you leave your lid with the bike instead of carrying it around all day. The lightweight aluminium carabiner clips through your helmet's D-rings and secures it to the machine, while an outward-opening gate makes it quick to fit and release with gloves on.

A supplied T-bar suits helmets fitted with a quick-release ratchet buckle rather than D-rings, and the included coiled cable extends the system to secure a jacket or other riding kit alongside the helmet.

Best thought of as a convenient deterrent for short stops rather than a substitute for a heavy-duty chain or disc lock.

Operations & maintenance

Thread the carabiner through both helmet D-rings, then clip it to a fixed part of the motorcycle such as a frame loop, grab rail or pillion peg bracket.
If your helmet uses a quick-release ratchet buckle instead of D-rings, fit the supplied T-bar first, then clip the carabiner to it.
Use the coiled cable to loop a jacket or other kit through before clipping it into the carabiner.
Check the helmet is not left hanging against paintwork, bodywork or a hot exhaust, and that the strap is not taking the helmet's full weight against a sharp edge.
Rinse off salt, road grime and mud after wet or coastal rides, then dry the carabiner before storing to limit corrosion.
Keep grit out of the gate; a light spray of thin lubricant on the pivot will keep the action smooth, and wipe away any excess so it doesn't transfer to the helmet strap.
Inspect the gate, spring and cable regularly and retire the unit if the gate no longer closes fully or the cable is kinked or frayed.
Store under the seat or in a pocket rather than loose in a tank bag, where it can scuff visors and painted surfaces.
Treat it as a deterrent for short stops only; use a chain, disc lock or a locked topbox for longer or unattended parking.
