Description

The Oxford Top Box 52L is a hard, lockable rear luggage case for riders who need secure, weather-protected storage on the bike. At 52 litres it is the larger of the two sizes in the range, with room for two helmets or a useful load of luggage, shopping or work gear.

It suits commuters, tourers and anyone who would rather leave a helmet with the bike than carry it. The case supplied with a universal fitting kit and base plate, so it can be mounted to a wide range of motorcycles rather than a single model, and lifts off the plate when you want the bike back to standard.

Operations & maintenance

Fit the base plate to a solid rack or luggage carrier using the supplied universal fitting kit, and check that the plate sits level and fully supported before loading the box.
Re-check the base plate and fitting kit fasteners after the first few rides, then periodically — vibration can loosen hardware over time.
Always confirm the lid is closed and locked before setting off; an unlatched lid can lift at speed.
Load heavier items low and towards the front of the box, and keep the contents secured so they cannot shift under braking; a heavily loaded top box sits high and behind the rear axle, so allow for the change in handling.
Remove the box from the base plate using the internal bolt when you do not need it, rather than riding with it empty and loaded up.
Clean the shell with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid solvents, petrol, abrasive pads and strong cleaners, which can dull or craze the plastic.
Keep the rear reflector clean and free of road grime so it stays effective at night.
Wipe out the inside and leave the lid open to dry if any water gets in, then let it air before closing it away.
Lubricate the lock sparingly with a light lock lubricant if the key becomes stiff, and keep the second key somewhere separate from the bike.
Store the box empty, dry and out of prolonged direct sunlight when it is off the bike; long UV exposure fades and embrittles plastic.
