The Oxford Beast is Oxford's heaviest-duty motorcycle padlock, built for riders who want the highest level of static security for a bike parked at home, in a garage or at long-term storage. The body is solid steel with a 90mm girth, the locking pin is a 30mm hardened item, and the whole lock is surface hardened. It weighs 3.6kg on its own, which tells you most of what you need to know about its intent.

Independent testing backs it up: the Beast carries Sold Secure Motorcycle Diamond, the highest rating Sold Secure awards, and earns a 5-star ART rating when paired with the Oxford Beast Chain (OXLK126 or OXLK127, sold separately). Three keys are supplied on a numbered metal tag, and Oxford runs a key replacement service against that number should you ever lose the lot.

This is a deliberately heavy, home-and-garage lock rather than something to carry under the seat — worth keeping in mind if you need security you can take with you.

Write down the key number shown on the metal tag supplied with the keys and store it somewhere safe and separate from the lock — it is what allows a replacement key to be made if all three keys are lost.
Handle with care: the lock body alone is 3.6kg, so support its weight when lifting or fitting and avoid dropping it onto paintwork, wheels or your feet.

Wherever possible, secure the bike to a ground anchor or other immovable object and keep the lock and chain clear of the ground rather than leaving them lying on concrete.
Check the locking pin has fully engaged and the key can be withdrawn before you walk away from the bike.
Rinse off road salt, grit and mud with clean water after exposure, then dry the lock thoroughly before storing it.
Keep the keyway free of dirt and water, and insert and turn keys gently — never force a key that feels stiff or gritty.
If the mechanism becomes stiff, use a lubricant intended for locks rather than applying more force, and wipe away any excess.
Store the lock in a dry place when it is not in use and avoid leaving it sitting in standing water.
