Oxford Chain Lock GP8 - 2m x 8mm

The Oxford GP Chain 8 is an affordable general-purpose chain lock built around a 2-metre run of 8 mm hardened steel round-link chain with an integral lock head, so there is no separate padlock to carry or lose. A flexible nylon sleeve covers the chain to help keep it from marking paintwork, bodywork or timber while you thread it into place.

It suits riders and households who want one lock for a lot of jobs — securing a bike or scooter to an immovable anchor, or tying down items such as boats, trailers, BBQs, mowers, hire machinery, garden furniture and shed doors. The 2 metre length gives plenty of reach around posts, ground anchors and racks.

Four keys are supplied on a numbered metal tag. Record that number and store it safely — Oxford offers a replacement key service if every key is lost.

Record the number stamped on the metal key tag as soon as you unpack the lock and store it somewhere safe and separate from the keys — it is what Oxford's replacement key service works from.
Thread the chain through the frame or a fixed part of the item and around an immovable anchor point such as a ground anchor, post or rack, then engage the lock head.
Keep the chain off the ground where practical; a taut, raised chain is harder to attack and picks up less grit and moisture.
Leave the nylon sleeve in place — it is what stops the steel links marking paintwork, bodywork and painted timber.
Close the key dust cover whenever the lock is in use to keep dirt and water out of the keyway.
Wipe the chain and lock head down and dry them after wet or salty conditions, and let the chain dry before coiling it away.
Store the lock coiled in a dry place rather than left outdoors permanently, and avoid dragging it along the ground.
If the key feels stiff, clean the keyway and apply a small amount of lubricant intended for lock barrels; do not force a key that will not turn.
Check the links, sleeve and lock action from time to time and replace the lock if the chain is deformed, cut or the mechanism no longer locks cleanly.
