The Nolan N40-5 Open Face + Peak Classic in flat black is a jet-style helmet built around a high-resistance Lexan polycarbonate shell. It ships with a removable peak and a removable front visor, so the same helmet can be configured several ways — from a peak-and-visor setup through to a clean open face — in a matter of seconds.

It suits commuters, scooter and naked-bike riders, and anyone who wants one lid that covers urban runs and weekend touring. An internal drop-down sun visor, a removable moisture-managing liner and Nolan's AirBooster ventilation handle the day-to-day comfort side, while the helmet is pre-wired to accept a Nolan N-Com communication system without affecting its homologation.

Clean the shell and peak with lukewarm water and a mild soap on a soft cloth; never use petrol, solvents, thinners or ammonia-based cleaners, as they attack polycarbonate.
Wash the outer visor and the VPS drop-down visor with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth only, then air dry — abrasive cloths and household glass cleaners will ruin the anti-scratch and anti-fog treatments.
Never dry the helmet with a heat gun, hair dryer, near a heater or on a hot exhaust; heat distorts the shell and degrades the EPS.
Remove the Clima Comfort liner and cheek pads and hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, then dry in the shade away from direct heat before refitting.
After wet rides, remove the interior and let the helmet dry naturally in a well-ventilated spot so moisture does not sit in the EPS.
Check the peak and visor mechanisms are fully seated and locked after any reconfiguration, and refit any supplied covers over exposed mounting points before riding.
Adjust the Microlock 2 micrometric strap so the ratchet engages several teeth and the strap is firm under the jaw — the helmet should not roll forward when you pull at the rear.
Inspect the chin strap webbing, visor mechanisms and shell for cracks or chips periodically, and store the helmet in its bag in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
Replace the helmet after any significant impact or drop, even if the outside looks undamaged; the EPS compresses once and does not recover.
Have N-Com components fitted using the dedicated recesses and follow Nolan's instructions so the helmet's homologation is not compromised.
