Before fitting, lay the new cable alongside the old one to confirm length and end fittings, then route it along the original path so it does not bind, stretch or pull when the bars are turned lock to lock.
Keep the cable clear of the exhaust, radiator and moving suspension components, and avoid tight bends or kinks — a kinked inner will never run smoothly and should not be straightened and reused.
Set clutch lever free play with the adjusters at the lever and at the engine end, using the figure given in your Honda owner's or service manual for your model.
Recheck free play after the first ride or two, as a new cable beds in and can pick up a small amount of slack.
Lubricate periodically with a cable lubricant suitable for nylon-lined cables; avoid thick grease and solvent-based products that can degrade or wash out the liner.
Inspect the inner wire at both ends for fraying and the outer housing for splits or crushed sections, and replace the cable if either is found.
After wet, muddy or dusty rides, work the lever through its full travel to clear grit, and do not aim a pressure washer directly at the cable ends or lever perch.
Recheck free play and cable routing after changing handlebars, bar position or risers.
Store a spare cable loosely coiled in a dry place rather than folded tightly.
