A direct-fit replacement throttle cable from MTX Parts, made for the Honda XR80 (1990–2003) and the Honda CRF80F (2004 onwards). It is built to meet or exceed the original equipment cable specification, so it drops straight in where the factory cable was.

Suited to riders and workshops replacing a throttle cable that has become stretched, frayed, sticky or corroded. The nylon-lined inner and protective black vinyl outer housing keep the action smooth and help the cable last, which matters on a small trail bike that spends its life in dirt, dust and water.

Sold individually. Check your model year before ordering.

  • Confirm the cable matches your bike's model and year before fitting, and compare the new cable against the old one for length and end-fitting shape.
  • Route the new cable along the same path as the original, keeping it clear of the exhaust, steering stops and any pinch points, and secure it with the factory guides or ties.
  • Check that the throttle opens smoothly and snaps fully closed under its own spring pressure, with the handlebars turned fully left and fully right, before riding.
  • Set throttle free play using the adjuster at the twistgrip or carburettor end to the figure in your Honda service manual, then tighten the lock nut.
  • Inspect the cable regularly for kinks, fraying, split outer housing or a stiff, notchy feel, and replace it rather than trying to repair it.
  • After riding in mud, sand or water, or after washing the bike, wipe the cable and its ends clean and check the action again; avoid blasting the cable ends with a pressure washer.
  • Lubricate the cable ends and nipples sparingly with a suitable cable lubricant; do not use harsh solvents or degreasers on the vinyl housing.
  • Avoid tight bends, sharp radii or pulling the cable taut, as this causes drag, premature wear and a throttle that will not return cleanly.
  • Store a spare cable coiled loosely in a dry place, out of direct sunlight.
