A direct replacement throttle cable from MTX Parts, made to suit the Honda XR50R and CRF50F from 2000 onwards. It is built to meet or exceed the original equipment cable specification, so it fits and functions like the item it replaces.

Throttle cables are a wear item. Fraying, stiffness, sticking or excessive free play are all signs the original is past its best, and on a small-capacity trail or play bike that gets ridden hard and washed often, they degrade faster than most owners expect. This is a sensible, low-cost fix that restores clean throttle action.

Suited to home mechanics and workshops servicing Honda's 50cc pit and junior trail bikes.

  • Route the new cable along the original factory path, keeping it clear of the exhaust, steering head and any pinch points.
  • Check that the throttle returns fully and freely with the handlebars turned to full lock in both directions before riding.
  • Set throttle free play to the figure specified in your Honda service manual, then tighten the adjuster locknut.
  • Lubricate the inner cable periodically with a light cable lubricant, and after every wash or wet ride, to keep the action smooth and prevent corrosion.
  • Avoid tight bends or kinks in the outer housing, as these cause stiff operation and premature inner wear.
  • Inspect the cable ends and inner strands regularly for fraying, rust or stiffness, and replace the cable if any are found.
  • Do not use high-pressure water directly on the throttle housing or cable ends when cleaning the bike.
  • Re-check free play after the first few rides, as new cables can settle slightly.
