  • Inspect the air filter before every ride and after any outing in muddy, sandy or heavily dusty conditions — a clogged filter starves the engine and causes damage.
  • Clean using a dedicated foam air filter cleaner or mild degreaser; work the product gently through the element, rinse thoroughly with water, and allow to dry completely before re-oiling.
  • Apply a quality foam filter oil evenly across the entire element; work it in by hand to ensure no dry patches remain, then allow any excess to drain for several minutes before installation.
  • Confirm the 3-pin connector is fully engaged and the filter sits flush and square in the airbox — any gap allows unfiltered air to bypass the element and enter the engine.
  • Inspect the filter element for tears, holes or deformation after cleaning; a damaged filter must be replaced immediately regardless of how little service time it has seen.
  • Check the airbox lid seals and any surrounding gaskets each time the filter is removed to ensure no dirt ingress path exists once the lid is refitted.
  • Store spare filters in a sealed plastic bag away from direct sunlight, heat sources and petroleum-based products to prevent premature deterioration of the foam.
