Description

The Metzeler Karoo 4 is the successor to the long-serving Karoo 3, built for adventure and maxi-enduro machines that spend real time off the bitumen. This 150/70-17 rear fitment carries a 69T load and speed index, an M+S marking and a tubeless radial construction, and is the size listed for the BMW F900GS (MY24).

It suits riders who want genuine dirt capability without giving away composure on sealed roads. Scoop-shaped knobs dig into soft and bottomless terrain while the multi-radius profile and stiffer carcass keep the bike holding a line when loaded with luggage and a pillion. Metzeler's dual-compound rear construction and INTERACT steel belt are aimed at abrasion resistance, thermal stability and predictable feedback through lean.

Fitting, balancing and inflation should be carried out by a qualified motorcycle tyre technician.

Key Features

  • 150/70-17 rear tyre, 69T load and speed index, tubeless
  • M+S (mud and snow) marked for mixed-surface adventure use
  • Radial construction with INTERACT multi-zone steel belt tension for steering neutrality and wet performance
  • EDGE&BASE dual-compound rear layout: 100% carbon black centre for abrasion and tearing resistance over a silica-based softer base compound
  • Scoop-shaped knobs that maximise the rake effect in soft and bottomless dirt
  • DETRATEC (Dual-Effect Traction Technology) tread design traps mud to assist traction, then clears it for self-cleaning
  • DYMATEC (Dynamic Mould Angle Technology) variable groove wall angles for more uniform tread wear across lean angles
  • Patented multi-pitch knob layout to reduce tyre noise and improve rolling smoothness
  • Transversal knob layout for off-road traction with directional road stability
  • Optimised footprint places more knobs in the contact patch, aiding integration with electronic rider aids
  • Stiffer carcass and multi-radius profile for line holding and grip in lean under heavy loads
  • Size listed for BMW F900GS MY24

Operations & maintenance

Have the tyre fitted, balanced and inflated by a qualified motorcycle tyre technician — never attempt to fit a radial tubeless tyre with hand tools.
Observe the directional arrow moulded on the sidewall so the tread pattern rotates the correct way.
Ride gently for the first stretch of riding on a new tyre so the tread surface scrubs in and the mould release residue wears off, avoiding hard acceleration, heavy braking and deep lean angles until it does.
Check and adjust pressures when the tyre is cold, using the pressures specified in your motorcycle's owner handbook for the load you are carrying; re-check before every long ride and after any off-road pressure changes.
If you lower pressures for sand or soft terrain, return to the manufacturer's road pressures before riding on sealed roads at speed.
Inspect the tread and sidewalls regularly for cuts, splits, bulges, embedded stones between the knobs and torn knob edges, and remove trapped debris.
Fit a new tubeless valve when the tyre is replaced, and make sure the rim sealing surfaces are clean and undamaged.
Do not exceed the load and speed capability indicated by the 69T marking, and replace the tyre before the tread reaches the legal minimum depth or the wear indicators.
Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from solvents, fuels, oils and electric motors, which can accelerate rubber ageing.
The M+S marking indicates mixed-surface capability, not a substitute for dedicated winter or studded tyres; ride to the conditions in cold weather until the tyre reaches operating temperature.
