The Merlin Perton II Cotec is the second generation of Merlin's short-cut waxed cotton motorcycle jacket, reworked using feedback gathered from riders since the original launched. It is built from 8oz Cotec, a Halley Stevenson® and Merlin collaboration fabric exclusive to the brand that is half the weight of traditional waxed cotton while being twice as strong.
A Texland™ Humax® waterproof and breathable membrane keeps the weather out, and the zip-out thermal liner uses Outlast® temperature regulating technology so the jacket can be adapted as conditions change. D3O® armour is fitted at the shoulders, elbows and back, and the shell carries a CE Level AA rating.
It suits the rider who wants heritage looks and modern protection in the same garment — equally at home on a classic, a modern retro or a naked bike, and discreet enough to keep on once you're off the bike.

- Remove the D3O® shoulder, elbow and back armour and unzip the Outlast® thermal liner before cleaning the shell.
- Clean the waxed cotton shell by hand with cold water and a soft cloth or sponge only — do not machine wash, dry clean, tumble dry or iron.
- Avoid detergents, soaps, solvents and stain removers on the waxed outer; they strip the wax finish and reduce water resistance.
- Hang the jacket to dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources, radiators and sunlight.
- Re-proof the shell with a waxed cotton dressing when the fabric starts to look dry or water stops beading, concentrating on seams, cuffs, collar and other high-wear areas.
- Expect some waxed cotton characteristics in use — the finish will mark, crease and may transfer colour onto light-coloured clothing or seats, particularly when new or freshly re-waxed.
- Wash the removable thermal liner separately and follow the care label sewn into it.
- Check before each ride that the D3O® armour sits correctly in its pockets over the shoulders, elbows and spine, and that the back protector has not shifted.
- Do the cuff, forearm, bicep and waist adjusters up so armour stays in position rather than sliding on impact.
- Use the jacket-to-jean zip or Euro hoop strap with compatible riding jeans to stop the short cut riding up.
- Store on a wide hanger in a cool, dry, ventilated space — not compressed in a bag or sealed plastic, which can mark the wax.
- Inspect zips, snap studs and stitching periodically, and replace armour or the garment after a crash impact.
