- Confirm your boot model is a Leatt 5.5 before fitting — buckles are not interchangeable across all Leatt boot models.
- Replace buckles as a pair so both boots close with the same tension and look consistent.
- After fitting, check the buckle engages fully through its full range of adjustment before riding.
- Check buckle security and fastener tightness before each ride, and again after the first few rides following a replacement.
- Clean mud, sand and grit out of the buckle teeth and strap slots after every ride — trapped debris is the main cause of poor engagement and premature wear.
- Wash with warm water and mild soap only; avoid solvents, degreasers, petrol and high-pressure washers aimed directly at the closure.
- Dry boots and buckles naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
- Replace any buckle that is cracked, deformed or no longer latches positively rather than attempting to repair it.
- Store boots in a cool, dry place with buckles lightly latched to hold the straps in shape.
