The Kovix Overlord KNX12 is a compact alarmed disc lock built for riders who park in public — at work, at the shops, or overnight on the street. A hardened 12 mm pushdown pin drops straight through a brake rotor hole, and the built-in 120 dB siren sounds the moment the lock is disturbed, drawing attention long before anyone can get to work on it.

Movement and shock sensing is backed by a magnetic induction detection system, and the electronics module is waterproofed so the lock keeps doing its job in the wet. The alarm can be switched off when you'd rather use the lock as a plain mechanical deterrent, such as in a garage or on a ferry crossing.

This listing includes the coiled reminder cable, which loops from the lock to your handlebar so you can't miss it and ride off with the lock still fitted.

  • Fit the lock through a hole in the brake rotor, close to the caliper where possible, and push the body down until the pin latches — the alarm arms on its own once the lock is closed.
  • Always clip the coiled reminder cable to the handlebar or a mirror so the lock is in plain sight before you set off; riding away with a disc lock fitted can damage the rotor, caliper and fork.
  • Use the key to switch the alarm off before transporting the bike on a trailer or ferry, or when the bike will be moved in a workshop, to avoid nuisance triggering.
  • Avoid setting the lock on a hot brake rotor, and let discs cool before fitting after a hard ride.
  • Rinse road salt, dirt and brake dust off with clean fresh water, then dry the lock thoroughly before storing it — do not use solvents or harsh degreasers on the body or the electronics module.
  • Keep the pin and its seat clean; a light spray of dry PTFE or graphite lubricant in the keyway is enough, and heavy oils or grease should be avoided as they hold grit.
  • Replace the CR2 lithium battery when the alarm becomes quiet, slow to trigger or starts warning of low power, and fit a fresh battery before long periods of outdoor parking.
  • Remove the battery if the lock will be stored unused for an extended period, and keep it somewhere dry.
  • Store the supplied metal key-code tag and spare keys somewhere safe and separate from the lock — the code is what allows replacement keys to be ordered.
  • Inspect the pin, keyway and cable periodically for corrosion, bending or play, and retire the lock if the mechanism no longer latches cleanly.
