Correctly fitted rim tape is an essential but often overlooked part of a wheel build, preventing pinch punctures caused by direct contact between the tube and the rim's spoke holes.

Clean the rim channel thoroughly and remove any old tape, adhesive residue, or debris before fitting new rim tape.
Centre the tape along the rim channel so it fully covers all spoke nipple holes from edge to edge.
Ensure the valve hole in the tape aligns precisely with the rim's valve hole before pressing the tape down.
Smooth the tape firmly into the channel with your thumb or a blunt tool to eliminate air bubbles and ensure full adhesion.
Inspect rim tape each time you remove a tyre or tube; replace immediately if the tape is torn, perforated, or has shifted to expose spoke holes.
Do not reuse rim tape that has been removed — re-fitting used tape risks gaps that can cause punctures.
