- Install using a flat-blade screwdriver or proper jet tool; thread in by hand first to avoid cross-threading, then snug firmly — do not overtighten.
- Never use wire, drill bits or abrasives to clear a blocked jet orifice; this permanently alters the calibrated opening and ruins the jet.
- Clean clogged jets by soaking in carburettor cleaner, then clearing with compressed air only.
- Inspect the jet orifice and threads for wear, corrosion or damage before installation; discard any jet that shows pitting or deformation.
- Change jet sizes one step at a time (e.g. #17.5 → #20) to accurately isolate the effect on mixture; keep a log of changes and conditions.
- When tuning for altitude: leaner jetting (smaller number) is typically required at higher elevations where air is thinner.
- Store spare jets in a sealed container away from moisture and contaminants to prevent oxidation of the brass orifice.
- After installation, verify idle mixture with a warm engine; adjust the pilot air/fuel screw in conjunction with jet selection for best results.
