The Alpinestars J-6 Waterproof Ride Shoe is a street-styled sneaker built to ride in. A lightweight full grain leather and suede upper sits over a waterproof membrane, so the shoe looks at home off the bike while holding out wet weather on it.

It suits urban and commuter riders who would rather not change footwear at either end of the trip. The ankle and heel protectors are hidden between the upper and the padded lining, and the soft, flexible build makes the J-6 far easier to slip into than a dedicated sport or touring boot without giving up protection in the key areas.

Brush off dust and road grime after riding, then wipe the leather with a soft damp cloth; use a dedicated suede brush on the suede panels rather than a wet cloth.
Avoid solvents, petrol, degreasers and harsh detergents — they strip the leather finish and can affect the sole bond and the waterproof membrane.
Do not machine wash or tumble dry the shoes.
After a wet ride, let them dry naturally at room temperature away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight; forced heat hardens leather and can damage the membrane and glued sole.
Remove the footbeds to air the shoes out after wet or hot rides; they are replaceable once compressed or worn.
Condition the leather periodically with a product suited to leather and suede footwear to keep it supple, and test on a hidden area first — waterproofing depends on the membrane, but a well-kept upper sheds water better.
Check the laces, metal eyelets, sole tread and sole-to-upper bond regularly; replace frayed laces before they fail on the bike.
Lace up fully on every ride so the ankle and heel protectors sit where they are designed to, and keep trouser hems clear of the laces and eyelets.
Store in a cool, dry, ventilated spot out of prolonged sunlight; loosely stuff with paper if storing after a soaking to help them hold their shape.
Retire the shoes if the protectors or upper are damaged in a crash — impact protection is not designed for repeat hits.
