The Hot Rods CBK0187 is a complete bottom end rebuild kit put together for the KTM 85 SX and 85 BW (2013–2016) and the Husqvarna TC 85 and TC 85 BW (2014–2016). Rather than sourcing lower-end components separately, you order one part number matched to these engines.

It suits riders, parents and workshops facing a scheduled lower-end refresh on a race-used 85, where the crankshaft assembly has reached the end of its service life. Bottom end work is engine-out, specialist territory, so we'd recommend fitment by an experienced mechanic with the factory service manual on hand.

Fitment note: always confirm your bike's model year and engine number against the kit before ordering, as 85 platforms changed across model years.

  • Complete bottom end rebuild kit supplied under a single part number, CBK0187
  • Fits KTM 85 SX and KTM 85 BW, 2013 to 2016
  • Fits Husqvarna TC 85 and TC 85 BW, 2014 to 2016
  • Matched kit format removes the guesswork of ordering lower-end parts individually
  • From Hot Rods, a long-established supplier of crankshafts and engine rebuild components for off-road motorcycles

  • Have the kit fitted by a qualified mechanic — bottom end work requires engine removal, case splitting and specialist tools.
  • Work to the factory service manual for your exact model year and follow its torque figures and assembly sequence; do not substitute generic values.
  • Split and reassemble cases in a clean, dust-free area, and wash all components and case halves thoroughly before assembly.
  • Use a proper press, puller and case-splitting tool to remove and install the crankshaft — never drive or hammer components into place.
  • Pre-lubricate bearings and seal lips with clean oil before assembly, and handle sealing surfaces carefully so they are not nicked or scored.
  • Check crankshaft runout with a dial gauge after installation and correct it to the manufacturer's tolerance before closing the engine.
  • Refill with fresh transmission oil and coolant, then leak-test the sealed engine before start-up to confirm the seals and gaskets are doing their job.
  • Run a gentle break-in with light loads and varied throttle for the first few heat cycles, allowing the engine to cool between them.
  • Change the transmission oil early after the rebuild, then keep to the manufacturer's service interval — 85s are worked hard and oil condition is the best early warning.
  • Store the kit in its original packaging in a dry place until fitment so the bearings and sealing surfaces stay clean and free of corrosion.
