- Replace the oil filter at every engine oil change or at the interval specified in your motorcycle's service manual — do not reuse a filter.
- Warm the engine for a few minutes before draining to help suspend contaminants in the oil, then switch off and allow the oil to cool slightly before working on it.
- Drain all engine oil fully before removing the old filter to minimise spillage.
- Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the new filter's rubber gasket before fitting.
- Hand-tighten until the gasket makes contact with the seating surface, then tighten a further three-quarter turn — do not use a filter wrench to over-tighten.
- After installation, start the engine and allow it to idle for a minute; inspect the filter seating surface for leaks before riding.
- Switch off, wait a few minutes, then recheck the oil level on the sight glass or dipstick and top up to the correct mark if needed.
- Dispose of the used filter and drained oil through an approved waste oil recycling facility — do not pour down drains or into the ground.
