- Before fitting, remove the old grips and clean the handlebar and throttle tube thoroughly so no old adhesive, grease or residue remains.
- Fit with a suitable grip adhesive or glue and allow it to cure fully before riding — grips that are still wet can spin under load.
- For motocross and hard off-road use, safety-wire the grips at both ends to stop them creeping or twisting.
- Check that the throttle grip rotates freely and snaps closed on its own before every ride, and that neither grip has worked loose.
- Clean with mild soapy water and a cloth; avoid petrol, solvents, brake cleaner and silicone sprays, which degrade the rubber and leave the surface slippery.
- Rinse and dry after muddy or wet rides so grit does not sit in the waffle pattern and accelerate wear.
- Store the bike out of direct sunlight where practical, as prolonged UV exposure hardens rubber grips over time.
- Replace the grips when the waffle wears smooth, the rubber splits or tears, or the grips begin to move on the bar — worn grips reduce control.
