Before fitting, remove the old grips and clean the handlebar and throttle tube thoroughly so no old adhesive, grease or residue remains.
Fit with a suitable grip adhesive or glue and allow it to cure fully before riding — grips that are still wet can spin under load.
For motocross and hard off-road use, safety-wire the grips at both ends to stop them creeping or twisting.
Check that the throttle grip rotates freely and snaps closed on its own before every ride, and that neither grip has worked loose.
Clean with mild soapy water and a cloth; avoid petrol, solvents, brake cleaner and silicone sprays, which degrade the rubber and leave the surface slippery.
Rinse and dry after muddy or wet rides so grit does not sit in the waffle pattern and accelerate wear.
Store the bike out of direct sunlight where practical, as prolonged UV exposure hardens rubber grips over time.
Replace the grips when the waffle wears smooth, the rubber splits or tears, or the grips begin to move on the bar — worn grips reduce control.
