The Garmin eTrex 32x is a rugged handheld GPS built for navigating well beyond sealed roads. A 2.2-inch sunlight-readable colour display and preloaded routable TopoActive mapping mean you can follow streets, tracks and trails without relying on phone reception, while support for both GPS and GLONASS satellite systems keeps your position fix reliable under tree cover and in steep country.

It suits adventure and trail riders, four-wheel drivers, hikers, cyclists and boaters who want a dedicated navigation device that runs on standard AA batteries. The 32x adds a 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter, so it holds a heading when you are standing still and tracks elevation change as you climb.

Power the unit with two AA batteries; carry a spare set on longer rides, as run time is up to 25 hours in GPS mode.
Remove the batteries if the unit will be stored for an extended period, to avoid leakage damaging the contacts.
Allow the device a clear view of the sky when first switching on so it can acquire a GPS and GLONASS fix.
Calibrate the 3-axis compass and the barometric altimeter after changing batteries or moving to a significantly different location or elevation for accurate headings and altitude readings.
Use a microSD card to add extra mapping or free up the 8 GB of internal memory; insert and remove cards only with the unit switched off.
Keep the device and its maps up to date using Garmin Express on a computer.
