The Fly Racing FR5 is an off-road boot built to deliver a premium feel at a mid-range price. It pairs a moulded outsole and alloy quick-lock buckles with extensive TPU and moulded plastic panelling, giving riders a stiff, supportive chassis without the bulk of a top-tier race boot.

Allow a short break-in period — ride a few sessions before racing so the sole and ankle pivots loosen and the boot moulds to your foot.
Adjust each of the four aluminium quick-lock buckles so the boot is firm but not pinching, working from the bottom buckle upward, and check they are fully latched before every ride.
Knock off loose mud after each ride and wash with lukewarm water, a soft brush and mild soap; avoid solvents, petrol, degreasers and harsh chemicals that can degrade the TPU panels and stitching.
Remove the boots and dry them at room temperature with good airflow, away from direct sunlight, heaters and exhaust pipes — heat can distort plastic panels and the rubber heat shield.
Dry the inside with newspaper or a boot dryer on a low setting rather than forced high heat, and let the textile lining dry fully to prevent odour.
Clear grit from the open buckle mechanisms and hinge pivots after muddy rides, then check that buckles, straps and receivers are undamaged and moving freely.
Inspect the outsole, shift panel, heel reinforcement and shin plate regularly for wear, cracks or separation, and retire the boot if the protective structure is compromised or after a heavy crash.
Store upright in a cool, dry place with the buckles loosely fastened to help the boot hold its shape; do not crush them under other gear.
Do not machine wash, tumble dry or soak the boots, and avoid walking long distances on hard surfaces, which wears the sole faster than riding does.
