Keep hands, tools and brake components completely free of oil and grease during installation — even trace contamination will significantly reduce braking effectiveness and is not recoverable by bedding-in.
Bed in new brake shoes gradually: perform a series of moderate stops from low speed before applying full braking force, allowing the friction material to mate fully with the drum surface.
Inspect brake shoes for wear at each service interval or as specified in your vehicle's owner manual; replace before the friction material reaches the wear limit.
