- Check the outside diameter of the pipe at the joint before fitting — this clamp is sized for 48mm (1-7/8") pipe.
- Slide the clamp onto the pipe before assembling the joint; do not try to force it over a fully seated connection.
- Position the clamp squarely over the overlap of the two pipe sections so the band pulls evenly, with the bolt clear of the frame, footpegs and any bodywork.
- Tighten the cross bolt gradually and evenly until the joint is secure; over-tightening can distort thin-wall pipe or strip the thread.
- Apply a smear of anti-seize or copper grease to the bolt threads before fitting to make future removal easier.
- Re-check tightness after the first few heat cycles, as exhaust joints commonly settle once the system has been run and cooled.
- Work only on a cold exhaust — allow the system to cool fully before fitting, adjusting or removing the clamp.
- Clean the chrome with a damp cloth and a mild detergent, then dry it; avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents that can cut through the plating.
- Inspect periodically for pitting, cracking or a stretched band, and replace the clamp if it no longer holds tension or the joint starts to leak.
- Store spare clamps dry to protect the plating and the zinc coating on the bolt.
