Check the outside diameter of the pipe at the joint before fitting — this clamp is sized for 48mm (1-7/8") pipe.
Slide the clamp onto the pipe before assembling the joint; do not try to force it over a fully seated connection.
Position the clamp squarely over the overlap of the two pipe sections so the band pulls evenly, with the bolt clear of the frame, footpegs and any bodywork.
Tighten the cross bolt gradually and evenly until the joint is secure; over-tightening can distort thin-wall pipe or strip the thread.
Apply a smear of anti-seize or copper grease to the bolt threads before fitting to make future removal easier.
Re-check tightness after the first few heat cycles, as exhaust joints commonly settle once the system has been run and cooled.
Work only on a cold exhaust — allow the system to cool fully before fitting, adjusting or removing the clamp.
Clean the chrome with a damp cloth and a mild detergent, then dry it; avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents that can cut through the plating.
Inspect periodically for pitting, cracking or a stretched band, and replace the clamp if it no longer holds tension or the joint starts to leak.
Store spare clamps dry to protect the plating and the zinc coating on the bolt.
