Description

The Biltwell Gringo S is a full-face helmet with a flip-up face shield, built around the pared-back retro shape Biltwell is known for. This latest version has been re-engineered to meet the current ECE 22.06 standard while remaining compliant with US DOT FMVSS No. 218, so it suits riders who want classic looks without stepping back on certification.

Three shell sizes replace the two used on the previous 22.05 model, giving a closer, more comfortable fit across the size run — particularly in Medium and XXL. The shield uses the same anti-rattle closure as Biltwell's Lane Splitter, and the hinge runs firm detents so you can ride with the shield cracked open at low speed for extra airflow.

Please note: the ECE 22.06 Gringo S uses a revised shield closure and is not compatible with shields made for the earlier Gringo S. Check your head measurement against the current Biltwell sizing chart before ordering, as the fit has changed from the previous model.

Operations & maintenance

Measure your head circumference and check it against Biltwell's current ECE 22.06 sizing chart before ordering — the three-shell fit differs from the previous 22.05 Gringo S, so your old size may not carry across.
Fit the helmet so it sits level, with firm even pressure and no movement when you shake your head; do the double D-ring strap up snugly every ride and use the red pull tab to release it.
Clean the outer shell with a soft cloth, warm water and a little mild soap only. Never use petrol, solvents, thinners, ammonia-based cleaners or abrasive polishes — they can attack the ABS shell and the shield.
Clean the face shield with warm water and a soft microfibre cloth, wiping gently. The anti-fog and anti-scratch treatments are surface coatings and are easily damaged by dry wiping, paper towel or chemical cleaners. Soak stubborn insects off rather than scrubbing.
Remove the comfort liner and cheek pads for washing — hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse thoroughly and air dry away from direct heat. Never machine dry, and never wash or immerse the EPS liner itself.
Dry the helmet at room temperature with the liner removed after wet rides. Keep it away from heaters, exhausts, direct sunlight or a hot car boot, as heat degrades EPS.
Ride with the shield in a detent position only at low speed for extra airflow, and close it at road speeds.
The shield hinge hardware can be swapped for anodised aluminium washers and stainless-steel screws to change the look — these sets are sold separately. Keep the screws firm but do not overtighten into the shell.
Do not paint the helmet, apply solvent-based adhesives or stickers, or drill or modify the shell in any way; this can void certification.
Store the helmet in a cool, dry place in a helmet bag or on a shelf, and avoid hanging it on a mirror or handlebar where the liner can be stretched or the shell knocked.
Replace the helmet after any impact or crash, even if no damage is visible, and replace it in line with Biltwell's recommended service life.
