Before installation, thoroughly clean the bearing housing and surrounding area to remove old grease, debris, and any contamination from the failed component.
Inspect adjacent components — including the starter drive gear and sprag housing — for signs of wear or damage before fitting the new kit; replace worn components at the same time to avoid repeat failure.
Apply the grease type and quantity specified in the vehicle's workshop service manual to bearing surfaces during assembly.
Torque all fasteners to the values stated in the vehicle service manual using a calibrated torque wrench; do not estimate torque by feel.
