Adhesion Promoter Kit 3M Primer Sticks

The Stompgrip Adhesion Promoter Kit is a set of 3M Primer 94 sticks used to prepare a surface before traction pads or other adhesive-backed products are fitted. Each stick holds an ampoule of primer that is released into a felt applicator, letting you wipe a thin coat exactly where the adhesive will sit.

It is aimed at riders fitting Stompgrip tank pads, traction pads and grip kits to bikes, and at anyone bonding 3M tape to awkward substrates. Primer is most useful on low-energy plastics and around pad edges — plastic side panels, frame rails and any area that cops repeated contact from riding boots or knee braces.

Recommended whenever grip is being applied to a challenging or heavily loaded surface.

Clean and degrease the surface first — remove wax, polish, silicone, road grime and old adhesive residue, then let it dry completely.
Snap the ampoule inside the stick to release the primer into the felt applicator, then work quickly while it is wet.
Wipe on a thin, even coat only where the adhesive will sit; excess primer does not improve the bond and can be visible around the edges of a pad.
Pay particular attention to the outline of the pad — edges are where lifting starts, especially on plastic side panels and frame rails.
Let the primed area dry to a touch-dry finish before pressing the grip into place, then apply firm pressure across the whole pad.
Use in a well-ventilated area, away from heat and sources of ignition, and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Test on an inconspicuous spot first if you are unsure how a paint, decal or clear coat will react.
Do not prime damp, greasy or very cold surfaces — bonding suffers in the cold, so work in a warm, dry space where possible.
The ampoules are single-use: discard a spent stick rather than saving a partly used one.
Store unused sticks sealed, upright, in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.
