- Clean both mating surfaces (carburettor body and float bowl) thoroughly before fitting the new gasket; remove all traces of the old gasket and any fuel residue.
- Install the gasket dry — float bowl gaskets of this type do not require sealant or adhesive.
- Do not reuse the old gasket once removed; replace it each time the float bowl is taken off.
- Hand-tighten float bowl screws or bolts evenly, then snug to the manufacturer's torque specification for your carburettor — overtightening will crush or distort the gasket and cause leaks.
- After reassembly, turn the fuel tap on and allow the float bowl to fill, then inspect around the bowl for any sign of fuel weeping before starting the engine.
- With the engine running, perform a final check for leaks at the float bowl joint.
- Store any unused gaskets in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, ozone sources, and petroleum products to prevent premature degradation.
