Before installation, thoroughly clean the fork tube and slider with a lint-free cloth; any dirt or scoring on the tube will damage the new seal immediately.
Lightly coat the inner lip of the seal with clean fork oil prior to pressing it into the fork leg — this reduces friction during initial compression and prevents the lip tearing.
Use a proper seal driver or a length of appropriately sized PVC pipe to press the seal in squarely; never hammer the seal in unevenly, as this distorts the lip.
Inspect the fork tube surface for corrosion, pitting or score marks before fitting; a damaged tube will cut through a new seal prematurely — replace or recondition the tube if necessary.
Always replace both fork seals at the same time to ensure balanced damping and oil levels between legs.
After installation, refill with the manufacturer-specified grade and quantity of fork oil for your motorcycle model; incorrect oil volume directly affects suspension performance and handling.
Ride conservatively for the first 50–100 km to allow the new seal lips to bed in and seat properly against the fork tube.
After the bed-in period, inspect the area around each fork seal for weeping oil; a light film may be present initially but should resolve — persistent leaking indicates a fitting issue or a damaged tube.
Store unused seals in a cool, dry location away from UV light, ozone sources (motors, fluorescent lighting) and petroleum solvents, as these degrade rubber compounds.
