Description

The Michelin Power Cup 2 is a road-legal sport tyre built with track work firmly in mind. Michelin positions it as a street-legal sportbike tyre designed for around 90% track use, so it suits riders who spend most of their time at track days but still want to ride to and from the circuit legally.

This is the rear fitment in 200/55 ZR 17 (78W), sold individually. It shares its architecture, dual-compound layout and tread pattern with the wider Michelin street, track day and racing range, which makes moving between road and track setups straightforward. The tyre is homologated as road legal and has been approved as original equipment by one or more premium manufacturers, including KTM.

Best suited to litre-class and large-capacity sportbikes running a 200-section rear. If you are chasing more track time and lower lap times without stepping across to a full slick, this is the pointy end of Michelin's road-legal offering.

Operations & maintenance

Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified motorcycle tyre technician using correct machinery; do not attempt roadside or DIY fitment on a 200-section radial.
Scrub in new rubber over the first ride or first few laps with progressive lean angles and gentle throttle and brake inputs before pushing for pace, as the surface is slippery when fresh.
Check and adjust pressures when the tyre is cold, before every ride or track session, and follow the pressure recommendations from your motorcycle manufacturer or your track day tyre technician for the conditions.
Run different pressures for road and track work rather than a single compromise setting; track pressures are typically lower and should be set on advice for your bike and circuit.
Allow a warm-up lap or two before hard use, even though this tyre is designed to come up to temperature quickly.
Inspect before each ride for cuts, embedded objects, blistering, tearing or uneven wear, and have any damage assessed professionally before riding again.
Replace the tyre once the wear indicators are reached or the legal minimum tread depth is met, whichever comes first; a heavily track-worn tyre may need replacing well before that point.
Do not exceed the load and speed capability marked on the sidewall, and check the tyre suits your rim width and your bike's approved fitment.
Respect the direction-of-rotation arrow on the sidewall when fitting.
Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight, solvents, fuels and electric motors that generate ozone.
Clean with mild soap and water only; keep tyre shine, dressings and solvents off the tread, as they can compromise grip.
If the tyre has been run at low pressure or punctured, treat it as suspect for track use and have it checked rather than repaired and raced.
