The Avon Cobra Chrome AV92 is the next generation of Avon's Cobra cruiser tyre, and this 260/40R18 84V fitment is the rear tyre for riders running extra-wide custom rubber. Despite the name, there's no actual chrome involved — the look comes from the deep snakeskin-effect sidewall etching and the bold tread pattern.
Developed from the research behind the original Cobra, the Cobra Chrome was reworked for stronger grip in the dry and the wet, a larger footprint on the road and longer life between changes. It suits cruisers, baggers and heavily customised machines that carry touring loads and cover long distances in comfort.
Sold individually as a single rear tyre. Fitment and balancing should be carried out by a qualified motorcycle tyre fitter.

- Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified motorcycle tyre fitter — a 260-section rear needs the correct rim width and machinery, and incorrect fitting can damage the bead.
- Ride gently for the first stretch on a new tyre until the moulding release agents have scrubbed off and the surface is fully keyed in; avoid hard acceleration, heavy braking and deep lean angles during this period.
- Check and adjust inflation pressures cold (before riding), using the pressures specified by your motorcycle's manufacturer for the load you are carrying — under-inflation is the most common cause of overheating and premature wear on wide cruiser rears.
- Re-check pressures before long trips and whenever you add a pillion or luggage, as this tyre is designed for heavy touring loads.
- Inspect the tread and sidewalls regularly for cuts, bulges, embedded objects, uneven wear or flat-spotting, and have any damage assessed before riding.
- Replace the tyre before the tread reaches the legal minimum depth, and check the tread wear indicators moulded into the grooves.
- Clean the sidewalls and snakeskin etching with mild soap and water only — keep petrol, solvents, degreasers and silicone-based tyre shines off the tread and sidewall, as they can degrade the rubber and leave the surface slippery.
- Avoid parking or storing the bike for long periods in direct sunlight, near electric motors or welders (ozone sources), or on damp concrete; a cool, dry, dark space is best.
- If the bike is stored for an extended period, keep the tyre inflated and ideally take the weight off the wheel to prevent flat spots.
- Do not mix tyre types or fit a tyre outside the size and rating specified for your motorcycle, and follow Avon's guidance on pairing front and rear fitments.
